HIGHLIGHTED SHORE EXCURSION IN MADAGASCAR

Nosy Komba - Isle of Lemurs

Enjoy meeting the locals and being entertained by whimsical lemurs on this delightful tour to nearby Nosy Komba.

Board your local boat from the ship's gangway and cruise across the east coast of Nosy Be to Nosy Komba, passing the verdant Lokobe evergreen forest along the way. Reaching the fishing village of Ampangoriana, you will tender ashore and then have a bit of time to mingle with the locals and browse for souvenirs.

Approximately 500 yards from the village is the Black Lemur Sanctuary, home to Madagascar's most famous residents, the black lemurs.  During your visit, you will have the opportunity to observe these lively creatures as they leap from tree to tree.  The black lemurs are the males and the brown lemurs the females. Although these animals live in the wild, they are tame enough to be fed with bananas and their capricious behavior will no doubt be fun to watch.

Leaving the sanctuary, you will walk to a nearby snack bar where you will be treated to a light snack while relaxing in the shade of a Tamarind tree and taking in the wonderful views of the Lokobe Reserve and surrounding islands.  During your break, the local Sakalava embroiders will give you a demonstration on tablecloth making and the village children will perform a brief folk show for you.  Free time will be provided for you to stroll on the beach, shop for souvenirs or perhaps take a dip in the ocean.

At the conclusion of your visit, you will re-board your boat and cruise back to Nosy Be and your awaiting ship.

HIGHLIGHTED SHORE EXCURSION IN MALI MALDIVES TODAY

Gulhi Village Island Tour

Spend free time on beach-blessed Gulhi, a teeny coral atoll in the Indian Ocean that proves good things come in small packages. About 1,000 people inhabit this idyllic sliver of sand, many of them supporting themselves in traditional ways. The residents fish and process their catch, make handicrafts out of natural materials, and build boats that are used for various purposes.

While walking about, you can expect to see fishing boats that typically catch tuna, grouper and the oddly named squirrelfish, a colorful species with spiny fins and rough, prickly scales. You might also see other people making coconut-leaf thatching. Life on Gulhi is wonderfully simple and best expressed through your time at the beach. You will be free to do whatever you please, including swimming in the turquoise seas, basking in the sun while stretching out on the sand and meandering along the coast in the gentle surf.

• Cruise to tiny Gulhi Island and spend time relaxing on one of the beaches.

• Meander through the island’s village & observe an authentic slice of life in the Maldives.

• Do whatever you like during free time with no reason to rush or schedule to follow.

    Phuket, Thailand            12:00 PM - 08:00 PM

HIGHLIGHTED SHORE EXCURSION HERE IN PHUKET THAILAND

    SPECTACULAR PHANG NGA BAY

Begin your day with a drive to the island's north end and then cross to the Thai mainland via the Thep Krasettree Causeway. Drive to Phang Nga National Park where you board a motorboat and begin your unforgettable cruise through the spectacular and seductive limestone scenery.

Established in 1981, the park lies in the sheltered pale milky-green waters northeast of Phuket Island and is the location of more than 80 awe-inspiring islands. These unique karst formations were created when a collision of great magnitude occurred over 300 million years ago between the Indian subcontinent and mainland Asia. The force of the tectonic plates pushed and rotated what is now Thailand and Malaysia, forcing the limestone above the surface. The resulting karst formations appear like fairy castles out of the sea and they come in all different shapes and sizes. Vegetation on the karsts has evolved to withstand long periods of dryness and an almost complete lack of soil. See spectacular flora hanging off the vertical rock faces and cascading down the cliffs including palm trees, bamboo, ferns and wild orchids.

During your cruise enjoy a photo opportunity at the small island of Kao Ping-Gan, where part of the James Bond adventure “The Man with the Golden Gun” was filmed. (fans of the film may remember the line uttered by the film’s villain saying to James Bond the words “Watch that mushroom shaped rock”, as he intended to blow it up to demonstrate his power.  The explosion was all Hollywood effects, but the huge limestone rock and its amazing tropical surroundings of other limestone karsts is real and you will see it all on this stunning shore excursion)

Next you will visit Koh Panyee, a small island with a picturesque village extending out across the water, resting precariously on small pilings. It is inhabited chiefly by Muslim fishermen who originally migrated from Indonesia. Cut off from the mainland and most modern amenities, their unique culture has existed for more than a hundred years.

Enjoy with buffet lunch at local restaurant at the village. After cruising through magnificent mangrove forests and small grottoes, your will back to the pier you will drive back to the ship. A short stop at a recommended shopping venue will be made en route.
