WONDERS
OF EGYPT AND JORDAN
November
21-December 3, 2026.
That calendar we live by—the one with 365 days
divided into 12 months—you can thank the ancient Egyptians for the handy
invention that helps you manage your time. In this 13-day vacation, you’ll
marvel at many other amazing accomplishments of this remarkable civilization.
The daunting Great Pyramids, the enigmatic Sphinx and the extraordinary temples
of Luxor and Karnak are well worth the journey as are the sparkling treasures
inside Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum, including the fascinating burial items from
the opulent tomb of “King Tut.”
As you sail down the
legendary Nile from Luxor to Aswan on this enthralling cruise tour of Egypt,
you’ll also stand in awe at the Kom Ombo Temple, barter for goods at the
bustling bazaars, and sway to the rhythmic drums on a relaxing felucca sail
boat ride down the Nile.
But the adventure
doesn’t end there. Your desert dreams awaken even more mystery with the
treasures of Jordan—from 4-wheeling in the red landscapes of Wadi Rum where
your luxury desert accommodations feel close enough to reach out and touch the
stars above, and off spectacular sunset and sunrise views, to the spectacular
sandstone monolith of Petra that conjures visions of the Indiana Jones movie
that brought this wonder to the public consciousness and ancient rulers resting
in the ancient sandstone tombs of its incredible Treasury building that is
molded right into the mountain face.
Lastly, you can float in the legendary Dead Sea, Sip tea in
the ancient traditions and soak in the ancient sites surrounding the Dead Sea
where some of civilization’s earliest history was recorded amid the horizons
where Moses saw the Promised Land. A Bedouin experience to rival ‘Lawrence of
Arabia’ in color, scope, and sheer beauty.

Day 10 – November 30, 2026
· Epic Desert Adventures
This morning we leave Amman and head for Wadi Rum.
Enjoy a fascinating 4-wheel drive tour jeep safari
in the stunning desert landscape of Wadi Rum and see the Seven Pillars of Wisdom made famous by both the movie Lawrence of Arabia
and the legend of the real Lawrence of Arabia who was believed to have visited
here..
Wadi Rum was also selected as the film location
for scenes from the movie John Wick 4, because of the location’s dramatic
setting and stunning desert landscape.
Wadi Rum is a protected desert wilderness in southern Jordan.
It features dramatic sandstone mountains like the many-domed Jebel Um Ishrin,
and natural arches such as Burdah Rock Bridge. Many prehistoric inscriptions
and carvings line rocky caverns and steep chasms, such as Khazali Canyon. The
natural watering hole of Lawrence’s Spring is named after British soldier
Lawrence of Arabia, who allegedly washed there.
In its 72,000 hectares of land, the Wadi
Rum Desert houses countless
points of interest: mountains, archaeological sites, corners of Lawrence of Arabia, sand dunes, canyons… But without a doubt, the natural rock bridges of
Wadi Rum arouse a special fascination, because their mere existence
supposes A challenge to the laws of gravity.
Wadi Rum rock bridges are the result of millions of years of differential
wind erosion.
The sunset over Wadi Rum is a famous and breathtaking
spectacle, renowned for its dramatic transformation of the desert landscape
into a vibrant canvas of red, orange, pink, and purple hues. This "otherworldly" or "Martian" landscape, a
UNESCO World Heritage site, provides a unique backdrop as the sun dips below
the horizon.
Wadi
Rum desert is often called unearthly as the landscape looks more like the
landscape that we expect it to be on the Moon or Mars. That is why people often
call Wadi Rum desert ‘Valley of the Moon’.
Wadi
Rum features an incredible variety of yellow and red sands combined with the
dark color of the gradient base of some of the mountains. At night when the
millions of stars illuminate the nighty, dark sky and the moon illuminates the
mountains. Together it creates a
fairy-tale landscape.
Both
are fabulous, but nothing beats the time of sunrise and sunset.
The Experience
·
A Color
Frenzy: The sky and the sandstone cliffs change
colors rapidly as the light softens, offering a truly dynamic and unforgettable
visual feast for visitors and photographers alike.
·
·
Peace
and Tranquility: The sunset is described as a peaceful
and relaxing time to enjoy the silence and natural beauty of the desert, a
stark contrast to the daytime heat.
·
·
Stargazing
Follows: As the last light fades, the minimal light pollution in Wadi Rum
allows for spectacular stargazing opportunities in the clear night sky.
The beauty of sunset in
Wadi Rum desert
Depending
on the time of year, the sun sets anywhere between 16.30 and 19.45 in the
afternoon. Sunset is a stunning transformation of colors. It is a real color
frenzy. The sky slowly turns from a soft blue to intense orange, to a burning
red. As the sun sets, the sky turns pink, followed by purple, a dusty grey, and
heavy dusk. And finally, the star-filled abyss of black is all that is left for
the night.
The magic of sunrise/dawn in Wadi Rum desert
The
sun rises anywhere between 05.30 and 06.45 in the morning, depending on the
time of year. But the magic of dawn starts over half an hour before. When the
first light starts to strike, the silence of the night will be broken by the
light sound of birds in their morning chirp. The air is refreshed, and the
darkness of the desert night slowly starts to disappear. Most of the year, the
sky is cloudless.
When
the sun rises, the sky starts to change from black to purple, then orange and
finally a hazy blue, which will intensify as the sun rises above the horizon.
The mountains lose their nighty grey and black colors. They slowly turn to soft
yellows and reds. And when the first rays of the sun illuminate the mountain
tops, it looks like they are set on fire. The serenity and magic of dawn is an
extraordinary thing to be experienced by all. Luckily the chances of a
completely over casted sunrise in Wadi Rum desert are minimal. So don’t forget
to set your alarm clock. It is worth it!
Don’t forget to turn around now and then to see how the
setting sun puts the red mountains on fire and turns the yellow mountains into
giant lumps of gold. See the shadows lengthen far across rock formations and
windblown dunes. Find yourself a rock to sit on. Let all the experiences of the
day pass by. Be silent and let the beauty of life and nature overwhelm
you.
Here are just a view images of
the amazing sunsets over Wadi Rum:
Best Viewpoints
While any open view to the west is suitable to
see the beautiful sunset over Wadi Rum, some popular viewpoints for the sunset
in Wadi Rum include:
·
Um
Sabatah: A frequently
mentioned rock formation and designated "sunset point" on the western
side.
·
Um
Mugur: A mountain that
offers an elevated and often more isolated view over the valley floor.
·
Al
Ramel (Dune): A large dune
near Jabal Al-Qattar, popular for climbing to get a panoramic view.
·
UNDER
THE STARS - Although known as the “Valley of the Moon,” Wadi Rum’s breathtaking
red landscape is often considered to resemble Mars.
Protected
by UNESCO and covering about 180,000 acres, it is home to several nomadic
Bedouin tribes. Captivating views of sunsets, sunrises and starry skies will be
on your doorstep when you enjoy tonight in chalets at our luxury desert camp -
enjoy a taste of authentic hospitality, without forfeiting modern amenities.
Wadi Rum is an excellent location for stargazing due to its remote
desert location, clear skies, and minimal light pollution, with the best time to visit being the winter months
(November to March) for longer nights and clear, dry weather. Alternatively,
summer months offer clear nights and a visible Milky
Way, though temperatures will be very hot during
the day. Activities like guided tours with telescopes and staying at desert
camps offer comfortable ways to experience the night sky.
When night falls in Wadi Rum, the sky comes into view with a clarity most places lost
long ago. Thanks to the desert’s isolation, elevation, and lack of light
pollution, the Milky Way stretches overhead in full view, constellations
that ordinarily go unnoticed elsewhere appear in sharp definition, and the
sheer density of stars gives the sky a kind of depth that’s almost
disorienting, making you feel small in a way that brings a kind of inner peace.
Few places on Earth offer
such conditions, which is why stargazers from around the world flock to
Jordan's rose desert, telescopes in hand, to see for themselves. From when to
go to what to pack and where to stay, here's everything you need to know about
stargazing in Wadi Rum.
Best times to visit
·
November
- March: Recommended for
the clearest nights,
What to expect
·
Clear
skies: The high
altitude and remote desert location provide exceptionally clear views of the
stars.
·
Darkness: The area is a "dark sky
enclave" with very little light pollution, allowing for incredible
visibility of celestial objects.
·
HERE ARE JUST A VIEW
PICTURES OF THE INCREDIBLE STARY SKIES,
AS SEEN OVER THE SAND
DUNES AND MOUNTAINS IN WADI RUM.
In Wadi Rum, the night sky
is so clear that even without a telescope, familiar patterns emerge with
striking clarity. The Milky Way spans the sky from end to end, showcasing a
dense river of stars that seems almost tangible. It's a constant presence, anchoring
the sky and drawing the eye upward.
Among the most recognizable
features is Orion's Belt—three bright stars in a straight line, forming the
center of the Orion constellation. To locate it, look southward during winter
evenings; the belt points downward towards Sirius, the brightest star in the
night sky, and upward toward Aldebaran, a red giant in Taurus.
This is the one night of our tour where it can get chilly
at night – Night time temps in Wadi Rum in November can dip into the low 40’s,
but its definitely worth it for the dramatic show of stars and constellations
in the reliably clear sky over Wadi Rum at this time of year.
