Join us for a beautiful exploration of one of the world’s most beautiful countries – Italy.
We will spend the first two nights in Rome and then visit Florence, Pisa, Montecatini and Orvieto, Siena, Greve and more, with our last two nights in enchanting Venice.

Add an optional 2 night extension to visit Milan to see the Da Vinci’s famous Last Supper, the famous Cuomo cathedral and La Scala Opera house and enjoy an included full day excursion from Milan to explore stunning Lake Como with a boat ride on the beautiful lake.

Day 1 Sunday May 17th

ARRIVE IN ROME, ITALY

Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore this ancient capital. This evening, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers.

Day 2 Monday may 18th

ROME

The “Eternal City” is steeped in history, vibrantly alive and exciting, and absolutely unique! Included sightseeing with a Local Guide starts with St. Peter’s Square and Basilica. Other included highlights of our tour today are the iconic Coliseum, the largest amphitheater ever built and Circus Maximus. An optional visit is available to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, to see Michelangelo’s world famous impressive fresco of The Last Judgment.

Day 3 tuesday May 19th

ROME–ORVIETO–SIENA

Journey to charming Orvieto in the Umbria region to visit its black basalt and yellow limestone CATHEDRAL, an excellent example of Italian Gothic architecture. Reach Siena, with time to visit this jewel of Tuscany. Sit in one of the cafés surrounding the Piazza del Campo and admire one of Italy’s most unique squares, famed all over the world for its medieval-style Palio horse race.

Day 4 Wednesday May 20th
SIENA–SAN GIMIGNANO–GREVE–MONTECATINI
Arrive in San Gimignano and discover one of Tuscany’s greatest attractions. Its medieval squares, town walls, streets, alleyways, and 14 towers are truly unique. Next, head into the very heart of the Chianti vineyards, where Chianti Classico wines are produced.  Our tour will stop in Greve for an included WINE TASTING at the Vicchiomaggio wine estate and then arrive in Montecatini in time to join the optional Tuscan dinner outing.

Day 5 Thursday may 21st

MONTECATINI. EXCURSION TO FLORENCE

This Renaissance gem and city of the Medicis will keep you enthralled the entire day. Wander at leisure and admire the city’s timeless beauty. Don’t miss out on the included walking tour with a Local Guide, which features most of the city highlights. You will see Piazza Santa Croce; beautiful Piazza Signoria; Palazzo Vecchio and its courtyard; Loggia dei Lanzi; and, to top it all, Piazza del Duomo and its cathedral with the Giotto Campanile, and the magnificent East Door of the Baptistry, known as the “Gate of Paradise.”  After our included walking tour of Florence free time will be available to explore this magnificent city at your leisure. Day 6 friday may 22nd 

MONTECATINI–PISA–VENICE AREA

This morning, we will be driven to Pisa and enjoy a mini-train ride to see its SQUARE OF MIRACLES and the amazing Leaning Tower—180 feet high and no less than 16 feet out of the perpendicular. Two to Three hours of Free time will be provided in Miracle Square to enjoy the tower and the many shops around it (and if you wish, tickets can be purchased to walk the steps to the top of the tower – Please contact us after Feb. 17th for further info. on that opportunity if desired or speak to your tour director at the start of your tour).  Next we will head across the wooded Apennine hills into the farmlands of the Po Valley to the Venice area.

Day 7 Saturday may 23rd  

VENICE

Venice is more like a marvelous film set than a real-life city, with its crisscrossing canals, gondolas and water buses, arched bridges, palaces, and piazzas. Your included orientation starts with a BOAT RIDE to St. Mark’s Square and is followed by time at leisure and a chance to watch Venetian GLASS BLOWERS fashion their delicate works of art as they did centuries ago. Don’t miss out on the optional gondola trip, gliding along the picturesque canals with a local troubadour to serenade you.

Day 8 Sunday May 24th

VENICE AREA–ASSISI–ROME

Travel across the Po Delta, then into the green Apennines to Umbria. Stop in medieval Assisi, where St. Francis was born in 1182. Visit the world-famous BASILICA with its beautiful frescoes by Giotto, then head for Rome.

Skip the return from Venice to Rome and instead join us for a much shorter journey from Venice to Milan where we will enjoy a city tour on Sunday afternoon and then on Monday we will enjoy a guided tour of nearby Lake Como.

Day 8 Sunday May 24th

Depart Venice by Train for the two and a half hour journey to Milan.

Upon arrival check in and then this afternoon we will enjoy an included hop on hop off double decker open top coach tour of the major sites of Milan.

Meet your guide in front of the Milan Duomo, and—if there are more than six people on the tour—don headphones so you won’t miss anything your guide says. Admire the exterior of the cathedral before going inside, contemplating the nearly 600 years it took to finish construction and the seemingly endless array of statues and spires that decorate the Duomo.Follow your guide right past the lines on this skip-the-line tour, entering the dimly-lit cathedral. Learn about some of the lesser-known architectural and design features—including some symbols that are usually associated with paganism—as well as some of the cathedral’s prominent elements.See paintings, sculptures, and stained glass windows decorating the vast interior space—the largest cathedral in Italy—and hear how Milan’s Duomo fits into the city’s history. Tonight if you wish, join us for a visit to a performance at the famous La Scala opera house or a night lights tour of Milan.

 

Day 9 –Monday May 25th -  Lake Como

Visit one of the largest and most beautiful bodies of water in Italy, Lake Como.

On this tour, you’ll travel with a guide to discover the highlights of the area around the lake with an itinerary tailored to the season. Food and drinks are at your own expense throughout the day.

After your 1-hour coach journey from Milan to Como, start your tour of Como with a look inside two of its historical attractions: the Basilica of Sant’Abbondio. Continue into Como’s historic center, and use your free time to get to know the town at your own pace with some sightseeing or shopping for Lake Como keepsakes.

Meet back with your guide for an extended 2-hour cruise around Lake Como, admiring the hillside villas and hotels, and pose for photos against the backdrop of the alps.

Return to dry land in time for your trip to the colorful seaside town of Bellagio, which many pinpoint as a highlight of the lake. Spend some time at your leisure here to explore and perhaps savor lunch. Later, cruise to Cadenabbia, then return to your coach for the one hour journey back to Milan.


Day 10 –Tuesday May 26th - Fly home from Milan

Passengers booking the 2 night trip extension to Milan and Lake Como should book their return flight to depart Tuesday May 26th from Milan, while those choosing not to take the optional 2 night extension to Milan and Lake Como should book their return flight to depart Monday May 25th (Memorial Day) from Rome.
