Port
Dubai

Home to the world’s biggest shopping mall, the world’s tallest skyscraper, and dozens of ultra-glamorous luxury buildings, Dubai is truly a modern wonder.

Explore the new sites of the city, as well as local charm.  Visit the observation deck on the 125th floor of the world’s tallest building, walk inside the six star Burj Hotel, which is built in the shape of a very tall sail boat and then if you wish, take a spin on a most unique Indoor Ski Slopes course (located inside the world’s largest mall).  You may also wish to take in the thrill of riding a camel or an all-terrain vehicle across the desert.

Plus, since or ship overnight’s in this port, you can enjoy the beauty of its luxury all lit up aglow in lights and even watching a nightly fountain show, modeled after the famous Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas.  Dubai has it all and with one and half days plus an overnight, you don’t have to choose just one activity, but instead enjoy several unique and exciting sites/activities in glamorous Dubai

Sat. May 9th   Enjoy a second day in Dubai for more exciting sightseeing of this unique city.  We remain in Dubai until 5pm when we set sail again.

Sun May 10th

Port
Muscat

 sunday 1pm – Monday 6pm

Scenically wedged between mountains and ocean, with old forts and excellent museums, an opera house and flower-filled parks, the gentle city of Muscat is a delight to visit. Its name means ‘safe anchorage’, and the sea plays an important role in city life to this day, sustaining the fishing industry and providing opportunities for visitors to swim from sandy beaches or dive with turtles in nearby lagoons. Visit cliff top landmarks such as a 16th century Portuguese fort .

Many people come to Mutrah Corniche just to visit the souq, which retains the frenetic interest of a traditional market albeit housed under modern timber roofing. Shops selling Omani and Indian artifacts can be found and either enjoyed with traditional bartering or just by strolling through its passages to observe.
Mutrah stretches along an attractive corniche of latticed buildings and mosques; it looks spectacular at sunset when the light casts shadows across the serrated crescent of mountains, while pavements, lights and fountains invite an evening stroll

If you stand by the harbor wall on Mirani St, the building to the right with the delightful mushroom pillars in blue and gold is the Sultan’s Palace. On the inland side, an avenue of palm trees leads to a roundabout surrounded by grand royal court buildings and the new National Museum. Although the palace is closed to the public, you can pause in front of the gates, at the end of the colonnaded approach, for a quintessential Muscat selfie.

Monday May 11th

Ship Docked all day until 6pm

A full day in sunny Muscat brings more interesting sightseeing options. Just outside of Muscat are the incredible diving reefs of Bandar Jissah.

Housed in an imposing new building in the heart of Old Muscat, the National Museum makes a fitting consort for the Sultan's Palace opposite. The emphasis of this contemporary museum is on quality rather than quantity, with space, light and height used to enhance the selective displays showcasing the heritage of Oman. Giant screens and high-tech devices bring the artifacts alive. There's a particularly strong and innovative multimedia section

Built by the Portuguese in the 1580s, the Mutrah fort dominates the eastern end of Mutrah harbor. Used for military purposes, it has at long last reopened to visitors.  Bring your camera for striking photos.

Salalah is the capital city of southern Oman's Dhofar province. It's known for its banana plantations, Arabian Sea beaches and waters teeming with sea life, making for great sun worshiping, swimming, snorkel and scuba diving opportunities.

Al Fizayah Beach is a stunning gem.  One reviewer of this beach after visiting had this to say ” This is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen: mountains in the background, green-blue pure water, white sand, clean, very interesting rock formations, amazing wildlife (including dolphins) and all of it  un-spoiled by man.”

Another beach, Al Mughsail Beach, is a beautiful beach with natural water fountains when the waves hit the rocks.  It also has stunning views of the mountains behind it, making for gorgeous walks along the white sand, plus views of cliffs and blowholes .

The average daytime high temperatures here are high 80’s, making for ideal beach conditions.

May 18th

Port
Petra (Aqaba)

Ship docked from 7am-10pm

Situated at the top of its namesake gulf, Aqaba brings a refreshing release from the rose-colored desert to the north. Its sandy beaches and coral reefs are the most pristine on the Red Sea, and Jordanians hope to preserve them through careful planning. Beyond the modernity of Aqaba itself, the UNESCO treasure of Petra – an ancient rock-carved Nabataean city once lost to the Western world – and the wonders of the Wadi Rum await discovery.

Petra is a famous archaeological site in Jordan's southwestern desert. Dating to around 300 B.C., it was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom. Accessed via a narrow canyon called Al Siq, it contains tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs, earning its nickname, the "Rose City." Perhaps its most famous structure is 45m-high Al Khazneh, a temple with an ornate, Greek-style facade, and known as The Treasury.
Spring and fall are the best times to visit, offering the most temperate weather, with fantastic lighting.

The visit to Petra is an amazing experience.   The tour starts by going through a wide path between the enormous rock walls, called the Siq.  We will follow the guide on foot, as the path is wide and not steep.  Throughout the day you will see the mountains change colors, from pink, dark red, purple or orange.  The tour will take you to see the Treasury, which is Petra’s most famous monument, as it is carved right into the huge orange rock face at the end of the path.  You will also see crypts, baths, mourning halls, buildings and temples from the past and a Roman theater.

Transit the Amazing Suez Canal

The Suez Canal connects the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. It’s actually a series of canals linking a series of natural lakes. It is truly a marvel of great engineering and is an amazing site to witness firsthand as our ship joins other ships in passing through the canal. More scenic than the Panama Canal, the Suez Canal offers beautiful views of the surroundings as we transit through.

It is also interesting to hear the ship’s narration of the canal’s history and other pertinent information to truly appreciate what we are witnessing. As you look across the waterway to ships passing the opposite direction, they almost look like they are moving across sand, as you will literally see sand running alongside the canal walls

It’s just beautiful to see. Towards the end there is a monument commemorating the opening of the canal
One reviewer of the Suez Canal transit experience had this to say

Breathtaking
“This is a very much bucket list thing to do.

Stay on the outer decks of the ship when you transit the canal, it is well worth it and quite something to experience. Either side of the canal is quite different. Ships going south looked like they were floating on the sand!”

Another reviewer wrote this

“We were lucky enough to go thru the Suez Canal on our cruise ship. We went thru at 7am and came out at 4pm. Just a remarkable experience. Amazing sites all the way thru - one side sand the other green trees and homes. You travel in convoy one way, we had 20 ships in our convoy.”
A third reviewer wrote this of the experience transiting the Suez Canal

“We had classical music playing on the top deck and the whole thing gave me goose bumps.  It was just amazing seeing it. There was more to see along the way than I thought: monuments, villages, fishing boats, locals waving, and a magnificent bridge. So pleased that we experienced this”

May 24th

Port
Sorrento

ship docked from 7am-7pm

Dramatic bluffs and craggy cliffs draped with flowing pink blossoms are the welcoming vision to this majestic port renowned for its serene way of life.  It is the gateway point of the Amalfi Coast with shore excursions to explore the stunning scenery along the Amalfi Coast, visit its quaint villages, or take an excursion to visit the equally stunning island of Capri, or the ancient ruins of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius.

Perched atop cliffs that separate the town from its busy marinas, Sorrento is known for sweeping water views and Piazza Tasso, a cafe-lined square. The historic center is a warren of narrow alleys that's home to the Chiesa di San Francesco, a 14th-century church with a tranquil cloister.

The Amalfi Coast is a 50-kilometer stretch of coastline along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, in the Campania region. It’s a popular holiday destination, with sheer cliffs and a rugged shoreline dotted with small beaches and pastel-colored fishing villages. The coastal road between the port city of Salerno and cliff top Sorrento winds past grand villas, terraced vineyards and Cliffside lemon groves
