October 30th, 2019    Beijing (Tianjin), China
Arrival: 6:00AM  October 30th – Depart  Nov. 1st at 6pm

Beijing Cruise (Tianjin), China:  ENJOY THREE FULL DAYS IN BEIJING WITH OPTIONAL GROUP EXCURSIONS EACH DAY.

The sixth largest ancient city in the People's Republic of China, Tianjin is the home of the respected Beijing opera and the Monastery of Deep Compassion, a  leading Buddhist shrine. The city has also served as the center of China’s political and social fabric for more than 3,000 years and is one of the most popular tourist destination sin the world. From the Great Wall of China to modern art and fashionable malls, there’s so much to discover on a Beijing cruise.  And don't miss the Tianjin Eye while in port. It's a 390-foot tall ferris wheel built right above the Yongle Bridge. You can also hunt for silverware, porcelain, clocks and memorabilia in the Antique Market and visit the iconic Tianjin Museum, whose architecture mimics the shape of a swan spreading its wings

TODAY ENJOY AN OPTIONAL GROUP EXCURSION TO SEE THE TEMPLE OF HEAVEN, The summer palace AND TIANAMEN SQUARE,  sight of the political uprising in 1989 where the Chinese people protesting for freedoms were massacred by the Chinese military.

The summer palace is the largest and best preserved Palace in the world – 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties resided and governed from here.  It houses several important Halls (such as the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Heavenly Purity and the Hall of Earthly Tranquility). It houses more than one million pieces of cultural relics including the priceless furniture in the empresses’ state bedchambers

The Summer Palace is home to the largest and best preserved imperial garden in China and one of the most famous classical gardens in the world

The Temple of Heaven represents the pinnacle of Ming and Qing architecture and was built to worship heaven and to pray for good harvests every year

The architecture and layout of the temple of Heaven is based on elaborate symbolism and numerology.  In accordance with principles dating back to pre-Confucian times, the buildings in the Temple of Heaven are round, like the sky, while the foundations and axes of the complex are rectilinear, like the earth.  The symbolism of the temple was necessary since the complex served as the setting in which the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, directly beseeched Heaven to provide good harvests throughout the land.  This was important since agriculture was the foundation of China's wealth in the imperial period.

Inside the temple, The Imperial Vault is surrounded by a round wall known as the Echo Wall. A mere whisper at any point close to it will send the sound traveling along the wall so that the echo can be heard clearly at the other end

OCTOBER 31ST 2019 – OUR  2ND FULL DAY IN BEIJING

The Great Wall is one of the existing megastructure and the world's longest man-made structure, stretching over 6,352 km (3,948 miles) from Shanhai Pass in the east to Lop Nur in the west, along an arc that roughly delineates the southern edge of Inner Mongolia.  "The long wall of 10,000 Li (里)¹") is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in China, built between 5th century BC and the 17th century to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire during the rule of successive dynasties

Overlooking the watchtowers on the peaks in the south and north, tourist can enjoy the wonderful scene where the wall wriggles along the mountain ridges. The Wall is about 24 feet high on average and its top is wide enough for 5 horses or 10 people to walk along abreast. The Wall is peppered with peepholes and openings for archers. The watchtowers were built at intervals of about 500 yards for accommodation, storing weapons and observing enemy movements. In 1987 the Badaling Section of the Great Wall was included in the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage sites

The Asakusa Kannon Temple is the oldest temple in Tokyo
The legend says that in the year 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, out of the Sumida River, and even though they put the statue back into the river, it always returned to them. Consequently, Sensoji was built there for the goddess of Kannon. The temple was completed in 645, making it Tokyo's oldest temple

Beyond the Hozomon main gate stands the temple's main building and a five storied pagoda. The Asakusa Shrine, built in the year 1649 by Tokugawa Iemitsu can be found close by the temple's main building
