Our ship, the stunning Celebrity Solstice, is one of the most glamorous jewels of the Celebrity fleet.

Celebrity Solstice® is one of our more decorated ships at sea. So it's no wonder that it's full of "firsts." Like the first Hot Glass Show and the first cruise line to have 5 women, also known as "the Leading Ladies" design, and decorate the staterooms. Some other things that set the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship apart are its specialty restaurants. Our passion for outstanding cuisine has taken the restaurants, the food and the overall dining experience to a whole new level in the cruising world. But staterooms and specialty restaurants are only part of this ship's charm. Celebrity Solstice also has the Canyon Ranch SpaClub® and fitness center, where you can pamper yourself with spa treatments or push yourself in a workout with one of our trainers. If only life on land was as good as life on Celebrity Solstice.

Day 7 – Jan. 10th

The Three Sounds of New Zealand – Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound and Dusky Sound.  –
The three sounds of New Zealand are Scenic Wonderlands of Nature and we will spend today leisurely cruising through all three of them.  Head to the upper decks of our cruise ship for panoramic views of the breathtaking scenery, as our ship spends the full day leisurely cruising through all three of them today.

Milford Sound, NEW ZEALAND

Deep within Fiordland National Park lies New Zealand’s most stunning natural attraction: Milford Sound. Discover the beauty of this pristine scenic destination.  Milford Sound is a fiord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island, within Fiordland National Park and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. It has been judged the world's top travel destination in an international survey (the 2008 Travelers' Choice Destinations Awards) and is acclaimed as New Zealand's most famous tourist destination. Rudyard Kipling had previously called it the eighth Wonder of the World.

Milford Sound was carved by glaciers during the ice ages. Milford Sound is breathtaking in any weather. The fiord's cliffs rise vertically from the dark waters, mountain peaks scrape the sky and waterfalls cascade downwards, some as high as 1000 meters.  The views are stunning with towering mountains overhead, breathtaking vistas and ample photo opportunities.

Milford Sound is home to unique birds and wildlife; get up close and personal and view seals chilling on the rocks and playing in the shallows just meters away. On occasion dolphins, whales, and the very rare Fiordland Crested Penguin visit the sound providing privileged photo opportunities.

Take in spectacular views as these majestic mountains plunge into the deep waters of Fiordland; their ancient hanging rainforests give way to towering waterfalls. Gaze up at iconic Mitre Peak; get with the adventure and experience 100% pure nature as we pause under Stirling Falls – Milford Sound’s second highest permanent waterfall. This is awesome

The fjord is a geological wonder of the ice age, where waterfalls cascade over sheer cliffs into the dark waters below and mountains dominated by Mitre Peak reach toward the sky.

The One Thing You Don't Want to Miss
Cruising the sound affords views of Bowen Falls, Mitre Peak, Anita Bay and both Elephant and Stirling Falls. If there's still film left in your camera after that, try to catch a glimpse of the dolphins, seals and penguins that pop to the surface on nice days in these calm waters.

As we sail into the narrow fjords of the Milford Sound, even your massive ship seems to shrink in comparison to the towering cliffs topped by lush mountain terrain. Situated within Fiordland National Park, this natural wonder is part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Site and is protected by its natural geography, which makes it a haven for all types of wildlife.

Fur Seals in Milford Sound

Doubtful Sound, New Zealand
Immerse yourself in the vast and untouched wilderness of Doubtful Sound, the second largest fiord in Fiordland National Park. With its rugged peaks, verdant rainforest and twisting, hidden inlets, Doubtful Sound will take your breath away. Home to abundant wildlife you may see bottlenose dolphins and fur seals at play, or catch a glimpse of a rare Fiordland Crested Penguin. Getting to Doubtful Sound is an adventure in itself. With no direct road access, the only way you can to get to Doubtful Sound is by a cruise.   This isolation makes the fiord a very special place, a place only those in the know get to see

You can only experience the grand scenery and tranquility of this magnificent fjord by boat. Doubtful Sound sustains an amazing array of wildlife.  its steep hills are covered with hundreds of waterfalls.

The One Thing You Don't Want to Miss
Its mountains and cascades are more immediately eye-catching, but Doubtful Sound abounds in rich marine life that makes a trip through its waters a special treat. Look overboard for bottlenose dolphins following the boat, or turn your eye ashore for lounging fur seals. You may even catch a glimpse of the Fiordland crested and blue penguins, gorgeous rare birds that call the sound home.

Dusky Sound, New Zealand
Part of New Zealand's Fiordland National Park, Dusky Sound was long the site of Maori camps but few permanent settlements. Captain Cook spent five weeks exploring the dramatic coastline that edges the mountainous wilderness.

Steep cliffs that have been carved over centuries by dozens of waterfalls surround the largest and most complex of the many fjords along the New Zealand coast, Dusky Sound. It's also a wildlife paradise, with seals and dolphins patrolling the water, and birds like broad billed prions, mottled petrels and sooty shearwaters floating on the overhead thermals.

The One Thing You Don't Want to Miss
The myriad islands that lie in Dusky Sound make for spectacular sightseeing, particularly majestic Resolution Island, whose Five Fingers Peninsula shelters the sound from the northwest. The abundance of sunbathing seals on Seal Rock also sends visitors reaching for their cameras. Finally, keep your eyes peeled for bird and wildlife sanctuaries: Curlew, Shag, Petrel, Pigeon and Parrot Isles; Shag River; Seal Rock; Goose, Duck and Woodhen Coves.

As cold mountain water cascades from the cliffs above Doubtful Sound, it creates an unusual phenomenon-a dual-layered marine ecosystem of fresh and saltwater. This serves as a playground for a number of species, including fur seals and two types of penguins - the fiordland crested and blue penguin.

Day 8 – Jan. 11th       Dunedin, New Zealand             Docked 9:00AM to 7:00PM

Today our cruise arrives in Dunedin New Zealand.  There is so much to explore in Dunedin. We will offer our group’s customized excursion for the day or you can sign up for one of the cruise line’s excursions:

Dunedin, New Zealand
Dunedin proudly celebrates its Scottish heritage but gold-rush fortunes are behind its grand Victorian and Edwardian architecture. From here you can also explore the Otago Peninsula, home to penguin colonies and scenic coastline

Were it not for the absence of the Scottish brogue, you might think you'd landed in Edinburgh. Both the scenery and the architecture borrow heavily from Scotland. You can even shop for kilts or dig into a piece of fresh haggis. Dunedin is also home to New Zealand's only castle, a 15-year construction endeavor complete with the only staircase of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and magnificent woodwork.

Day 9 – Jan. 12th     Akaroa, New Zealand     Tendered 8:00AM to 7:00PM

Set on a beautiful harbor, Akaroa is a quaint resort town with unique French heritage. It's your gateway to see amazing South Island nature, from the volcanic Banks Peninsula to the mountains of the Southern Alps or to visit the charming town of Christchurch.

Cruise in modern luxury to the historic French-British settlement of Akaroa, New Zealand, just 75 kilometers away from Christchurch. Explore the tranquil bays of Banks Peninsula, visit wineries, check out seal colonies, and, maybe, be lucky enough to spot some rare Hector's Dolphins.

Day 10 – Jan. 13th    Picton, New Zealand    Docked 8:00AM to 6:00PM

A charming seaside town at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, Picton was settled by early 19th century whalers. Today, it is a bustling seaport surrounded by award-winning restaurants, delightful local art galleries, water sports' activities plus beautiful yet challenging nature trails. Take an adventurous hike along the famous Queen Charlotte track and experience the photogenic flora and unique fauna of New Zealand. Since the climate of Picton is always temperate, at any season, you can take in stunning costal views, mystical waterfalls and diverse wildlife.

Day 11 – Jan.  14th     Wellington, New Zealand    Docked 8:00AM to 6:00PM

From the new to the old, Wellington offers a bit of everything. Locals are particularly proud of the National Museum of New Zealand - Te Papa Tongarewa. Loosely translated as "our place" from the native Maori tongue, the museum is one of the world’s largest and most progressive. A great way to explore the city is on the restored cable cars, which traverse the shopping district. And if you want to experience it all from above, take in the panoramic views from Mount Victoria.

Today for those interested, we will offer the first of our two optional Lord of the Rings excursions

Lord of the Rings movie sites and dramatic coastal scenery drive:

We will begin with a drive to the summit of Mount Victoria for panoramic views and then continue to where the filming of the trilogy first started. Stroll through the picturesque forest of the ‘Outer Shire'. Visit Weta Cave, a mini-museum with original movie props and drive along Wellington's stunning South Coast to Owhiro Bay, where Frodo and Sam finally reached the ‘Gates of Mordor'.

Middle Earth’s ethereal splendor beckons Lord of the Rings fans and anyone who appreciates exquisite scenery and dramatic panoramic views. See New Zealand’ picturesque forest where the Hobbits’ journey began and see "Outer Shire", including the site where the "Get off the Road" scene was filmed. Visit Weta Film Studios and Weta Workshop, a mini-museum featuring original production props, displays and a short film. The tour also highlights a gorgeous marine reserve and 360-degree vistas of Wellington and the harbor.  Your trip continues to the Hutt River, but Lord of the Rings fans know it as the Great River of Anduin.  Lastly, we will visit Harcourt Park: Learn how this beautiful setting was used for the Gardens of Isengard in the Lord of the Rings.  Upon our return to Wellington, you have time at leisure to visit if you wish, the Te Papa Tongarewa national museum

Day 12 – Jan. 15th     At Sea

Cruising in Style while relaxing at sea, Modern Luxury Lives here

Day 13 – Jan. 16th     Tauranga, New Zealand     Docked 8:00AM to 6:00PM

Explore a chic coastal town in a land of the Māori and Middle Earth. Tauranga’s white sand beaches offer something for everyone. Relax and sunbathe on one of New Zealand’s most beautiful and popular coasts. Take a dip in the ocean or immerse yourself in a lush waterfall swimming hole. Watch dolphins frolic in the waves or swim with these lovable creatures. Learn to sail, try surfing, take a diving lesson, or refine your fishing technique. Water activities abound in Tauranga. If you’re a landlubber, you can tee up at a golf course or stroll down The Strand where you can enjoy cafés and Tauranga’s vibrant nightlife. Journey to charming waterfalls or board one of the many eco-cruises available in the Bay of Plenty. Sometimes called the New Zealand Riviera, downtown Tauranga offers galleries, shops, history, and a vibrant café and restaurant scene. You can even see the landscape that served as the backdrop for Hollywood’s epic saga—the Lord of the Rings. Deep in the New Zealand countryside, you’ll find Hobbiton, the actual set where the movies were filmed. Enjoy a guided tour and take your photo in front of Bilbo Baggins’ Hobbit Hole.

Today we will offer our second LORD OF THE RINGS MOVIES SHORE EXCURSION

Lord of the Rings - Hobbiton Movie Set

This shore excursion takes you to the breathtaking landscape that served as the backdrop for Hollywood's epic saga – the Lord of the Rings. Enjoy a guided tour and take your photo in front of Bilbo Baggins' Hobbit Hole (his home in the movies). Soak up sweeping views across the Kaimai Mountains that helped create movie magic and are even more impressive in person. The tour involves walking approximately 4 tenths of a mile over grassy hills at Hobbiton.

Enjoy a guided walking tour through Hobbiton, a village of the Shire in "Lord of the Rings" and “The Hobbit” film Trilogies. The Hobbiton movie set is hidden within the most picturesque sheep farm with spectacular views of the Kaimai Ranges and surrounds.
