Tuesday July 2nd

This morning we will enjoy an included group breakfast at the hotel (a hot buffet with many choices including eggs, potatoes and more, plus cold juices, muffins and more.  Your group leader will give you passes for this morning’s group breakfast).

After breakfast, we will then check out of the hotel and we will then be driven a short two blocks to enjoy a guided tour of Sun Studios.  Sun Studios was the first studio where Elvis recorded and today still has the recording studio where Elvis recorded his first album and where he and Johnny Cash first recorded together.

Sun Studio is known as “The Birthplace of Rock’n’Roll”. It is the discovery location of musical legends and genres of the 50’s from B.B. King and Elvis Presley to Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis; from Blues and Gospel to Country and Rock’n'Roll. Today our goal is to spread the story of Memphis’ history and culture through the music that put Memphis on the map.

Stand in the very same spot that Elvis first recorded. Your tour guide will tell you the inside stories of B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf and Ike Turner before Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, & Roy Orbison who were all drawn to the new Sun Sound.

See the priceless memorabilia from the musical legends that blended blues and country music to explode in the "big bang" of Rock'n'roll.

Hear the voices of musicians that still haunt this studio, as you listen to outtakes from recording sessions and feel the energy of the music created here.

The tour is guided and runs from 10:30-11:15am.  Sun Studios is located just two blocks from our hotel and we will be driven to the studio for the 10am check in and then following our tour, we will depart Memphis and be driven to Nashville, (approx. 3 hours drive.)

Upon arrival in Nashville we will check into our hotel, ideally located right on broadway, the main street where all the nightlife takes place and where the free fourth of july concert and fireworks will take place.

Our hotel, the Holiday Inn Express on Broadway, features 287 guest rooms and suites useful home-like amenities and extraordinary customer service. Guests are welcome to enjoy a daily complimentary hot breakfast buffet during their stay, free WiFi throughout our property, a complimentary evening reception with live entertainment, light snacks and refreshments, 24-hour fitness center, and high-tech business center. Ideally situated along Broadway, the Holiday Inn Express Nashville Downtown Conf. Ctr. is within walking distance to dozens of popular restaurants and bars with nightly live music as well as major tourist attractions, such as the Johnny Cash Museum.

Wednesday July 3rd

This morning, after our included daily hot breakfast buffet provided by the hotel, we will drive a short 15 minutes to the nearby Opryland Resort, the largest non-casino resort in America.  We will first enjoy a walk through its many indoor atriums, gardens and waterfalls.  Next we will enjoy an included leisurely 15 minute indoor boat ride through an indoor river, passing more waterfalls, flowers and other horticultutural exhibits.

After our boat ride we will go next door to the Grand Ol Opry for a Back Stage Tour of the famous Opry where country music legends are made.
There’s nothing like a backstage tour of the Grand Ole Opry House; it’s a must-see for everyone in Music City! Walk in the footsteps of country music’s superstars and get an exclusive look at what happens behind the scenes of the show that made country music famous.

  • Your knowledgeable guide will share stories about the Opry and country music greats, past and present — from Minnie Pearl to Carrie Underwood, you might say — show you photos from the Opry’s biggest moments in history, and take you to the artist entrance where legends, new artists, and superstars alike walk into the Opry House on the night of an Opry show.

You may even have the chance to step on stage and into the famed wooden circle as generations of artists have done. Tours may also make a stop in Studio A, a live television studio and former home of the show Hee Haw.Haw.

  • You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look from your live tour guide, as well as also video segments of the tour hosted by Blake Shelton, who has been a CMA Male Vocalist of the Year, star of NBC’s hit show The Voice, via video segments throughout your tour.

You won’t want to miss seeing a sampling of the 18 artist dressing rooms, newly refurbished following the Nashville flood of 2010. Each dressing room is decorated around a unique theme. The “Cousin Minnie,” “Wagonmaster,” “Little Jimmy,” and “Mr. Roy” dressing rooms honor greats Minnie Pearl, Porter Wagoner, Jimmy Dickens, and Roy Acuff, respectively. It’s definitely a tour highlight!  After our Opry backstage tour we will return to our hotel on Broadway for the afternoon at leisure to explore the many restaurants, shops etc. which are all a short walk along Broadway where our hotel id ideally located.
The back stage tour lasts 45 minutes and is full of exciting memorabilia and interesting facts.

After our backstage tour we will return to our hotel for the afternoon at leisure to enjoy the shops, restaurants etc. of Broadway, all a short walk from our hotel, located right in the heart of it all on Broadway.

This evening, if you wish, join us for an optional live performance at the Grand Ol Opry.

What began as a simple radio broadcast in 1925 is today a live entertainment phenomenon. Dedicated to honoring country music’s rich history and dynamic present, the Grand Ole Opry showcases a mix of country legends and the contemporary chart-toppers who have followed in their footsteps. The Opry – an American icon and Nashville, Tennessee’s number-one attraction – is world-famous for creating one-of-a-kind entertainment experiences for audiences of all ages.
It’s been called the “home of American music” and “country’s most famous stage.” Every year, hundreds of thousands of people make pilgrimages across town or around the world to the Grand Ole Opry to see the show live. Millions more tune in to Opry broadcasts via a mobile app, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Nashville’s 650 AM WSM, and the Opry website and WSM 650 AM website

From Philadelphia to Fiji, everyone knows the Grand Ole Opry is "the show that made country music famous." How it earned that reputation is quite a tale.

It began on the night of Nov. 28, 1925, when an announcer on Nashville radio station WSM introduced fiddle player Uncle Jimmy Thompson as the first performer on a new show called "The WSM Barn Dance." Now, more than 80 years later, the show Hay started is still going strong. Along the way, it has launched countless country music careers and led the way for Nashville to become Music City.

The show that made country music famous” features a dynamic line-up of new stars, superstars, and legends of country music in each performance. Unlike a typical concert, the Opry presents eight or more artists on each show, giving the audience a sample of each artist’s musical style. Catch the Opry at the Grand Ole Opry House.

The names of the artists performing on each show date are typically posted on the Opry’s website www.opry.com approx. 4 weeks before each show, but tickets usually sell out before that date, as a great part of the fun of being there is just that – the fun of just being at a live performance at the Grand Ol Opry.  Each show traditionally has three headline performers who are well known, plus 5 lesser known performers. (The first time we ran this trip, everyone asked us to buy them a ticket to this show, before knowing who would be performing, understanding that the entertainers are not announced by the Opry until just a few weeks before each show.  Then once the Opry announced the performers for that night’s show, everyone was thrilled to learn that the three headline performers that night would be the groups Alabama, the Oak Ridge Boys and Country Music Entertainer of the Year Carrie Underwood!)

Show Duration: About 2 hours
Showtime 7pm

In addition to the show being a live performance from 8 country music entertainers each doing their own segment of the show, the show is also a live radio broadcast.

7:00 p.m.

Tickets to the live show are $50, $75, and $100 plus tax and we suggest buying your ticket as soon as you decide you wish to attend the live show.  You can either buy your show ticket at opry.com or call/email us and we can buy the ticket for you.  Seats have assigned locations, so if you wish to be seated in a particular price category or area, you can do that either at opry.com or by calling/emailing us and we can assist you with doing so.  You may also wish to wait on buying your show ticket to have us purchase your show ticket together with all passengers in our group who also wish to attend the show (We will be doing so for all passengers who request our doing that for them, the week of May 20th), or if you buy your show ticket yourself prior to that date to assure you get a seat in the price category you prefer, yet you also prefer to be seated with others in our group, just let us know the seat location you have purchased and then we can make a simple call to the Opry and they will be happy to move you to be seated with the rest of our passengers at the time we call the Opry to book all of our passengers together the week of May 20th.)

Food is available for purchase at the show or in the outdoor courtyard in front of the performance hall or in the food court at the shopping mall across the parking lot from the Opry.  Round trip transportation will be provided to our passengers wishing to attend the live show.

THURSDAY JULY 4TH – HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA

This morning is for sleeping in and then after enjoying our hotel’s daily free hot breakfast buffet at our hotel, we will meet in the hotel lobby at 11am to walk approx. 15 minutes together down Broadway to the river where we will have some free time to enjoy the views along the river and explore a few riverfront shops and then at 12 noon we will board our Gray Line Open Top Double Decker bus for a one hour city sightseeing tour.

Get the best of Nashville sites on this quick Nashville tour, which was designed to show off the best of the city in one hour.  Traveling by open-top double-decker bus, you'll pass by more than 100 landmarks and attractions, such as Ryman Auditorium and Vanderbilt University.  See the best of Nashville in just one hour.  Enjoy views from an open-air double-decker bus.  Learn about the sights via live commentary from a driver/guide.

The tour concludes at the same point it began and then we will be at leisure the rest of the afternoon and tonight to explore the riverfront and Broadway shops, restaurants and holiday festivities and free holiday concerts running all afternoon on Broadway, just a few blocks from our hotel.
If you wish, you may visit the John Cash Museum, a short walk down Broadway.

There are free concerts all afternoon at a stage set up at the corner of 5th and Broadway (just 4 blocks from our hotel which is at 920 Broadway)

Tonight, enjoy the free live headline feature concert by a big name celebrity singer (the last time we offered this tour the free headline feature concert was provided by Martina McBride.  Last year, the free headline feature concert was the group Lady Antebellum).

After the free concerts, enjoy a spectacular fireworks display in the night sky, accompanied by the live performance of the Nashville Symphony. The fireworks are shot over the river, where we began and ended our double decker bus tour today.  You can see them from anywhere along Broadway, or if you wish to again take the short walk along Broadway back to the riverfront, there is a large grassy field on which people toss blankets, picnic chairs or just stand and admire the fireworks along the grass if you prefer.

Nashville’s Fourth of July celebration is consistently rated as one of the best in the country

You aren't named one of the best July 4th celebrations without a seriously over-the-top fireworks show. Everyone in the crowd will be ooohhing and aaahhing in unison as they marvel at one of the largest 4th of July fireworks shows in the country! But what really puts it over the top is the GRAMMY-award-winning Nashville Symphony's original medley of songs performed live and perfectly choreographed to the fireworks spectacular and the headline entertainers  who showcases each year’s celebrations with their free concerts along Broadway.

The Fireworks

  • More than 60,000 shells, mines and comets will launch during Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th, one of the largest fireworks show in the country.
  • Nashville has hosted one of the largest fireworks shows in the country for the past three July 4 celebrations
  • Pyro Shows and the Nashville Symphony have been working for months selecting music and fireworks – and combining them into a spectacular, synchronized show of music, lights and sound.
  • There will be several elements that viewers should look for:
Sparkling waterfall: The shells burst softly and fall like a gentle waterfall as they strobe and sparkle. The lights from each shell last up to 10 seconds each. Pyro Shows will shoot 64 individual waterfall shells at the same time.

  • Brocade gold chandelier: A real crowd pleaser used during “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” Thousands of gold willow shells ranging in size from 1 inch to 10 inches in diameter will fill the evening sky with elegant tentacles of gold willow aerial explosions.

  • Ghost shells: These shells are invisible until a special coating burns off each star allowing it to illuminate in sequence. The stars in the sky sweep from right to left and then left back to right, creating an eerie but fascinating appearance.

  • Water fireworks: This feature will take place during a sequence when the music is low and slow. The Cumberland River will come alive with hundreds of small multi-colored fire flowers that dance and float to the sway of the music.

  • Finale: We know of no other show in the country this July 4th that will duplicate the power and duration of the thunderous finale that will immediately follow the Nashville Symphony performance. The power of the fireworks show ratchets up during the final song, but Pyro Shows will wait until the conclusion of the music to turn up the volume to full strength.
  • More than 33,500 pounds of explosives and 100 miles of wire will be used during the show.
  • The largest shells are 10 inches in diameter (larger than a basketball) and weigh 10 pounds each. Mortars are fired at speeds of about 200 miles per hour and burst at an altitude of 1,000 feet above the ground. Each of these shells produce a colorful canopy of colored stars that are at least two football fields in width.
  • Twenty technicians from Pyro Shows will work on the Nashville show with combined 2,600-man hours over the course of 10 days

After the fireworks, the parties continue in the many live music establishments along Broadway and the night is at your leisure to enjoy them as you wish and then walk back along Broadway to our hotel, located at 9th and Broadway, in the heart of all the fun.

Friday July 5th – After the free daily breakfast at our hotel, its time for all to head back to the airport.  Your trip host will be taking our passengers to the airport in two time slots arranged by their flight times, so just tell your trip escort your flight time to be placed on the best airport transport time for your flight time.  (The transport times will be between 9am and 1pm and the airport is approx. 15 mins. drive from the hotel, so if you wish to take our included free group transport to the airport today, we suggest booking your return flight for any time between 11am and 4pm.  Of course for other flight times, taxis and Ubers can be easily arranged for you at your own expense.)
