The stairs encircle the water on the three sides while the fourth side boasts of a pavilion with three stories with beautiful carved jharokhas, galleries supported on pillars and two projecting balconies enshrining beautiful sculptures.

The Chand Baori Stepwell

Our private guide will explain to us the history and cultural significance of this magnificent engineering feat and then give us free time to explore it at our own leisure and pace.

After departing from the CBS, our private vehicle will continue to the ancient village of Fatehpur Sikri - the capital of Mughal Emperor Akbar for a few years, reflecting his ideals in art, religion and architecture.

The city itself was founded as the capital of Mughal Empire in 1571 by Emperor Akbar, serving this role from 1571 to 1585.  Its magnificence and uniqueness offers a fine example of the emperor's architectural finesse.

Fatehpur Sikri is enclosed by a 11 kms long fortification wall interspersed with numerous gateways. The remains of the great city; the Imperial Palace Complex, the intricately built marble tomb of the great Sufi saint, Sheikh Salim Chisti and the grand mosque are second only to The Taj Mahal, a benchmark of architectural beauty.A rich imagination is all it takes to transport any visitor to the era of gold tapestry, drapes, rich plush carpets and the royalty of the Mughal courts.

The entrance to the ancient palace at Fatehpur Sikri .

Day 10 - Thurs-Mar-10, 2022     Taj Mahal at Sunrise     (B)

Early this morning we will be taken to enjoy the stunning site of witnessing the incomparable Taj Mahal at Sunrise
The Taj Mahal, the beautiful white marble monument built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal is an incredible site to see and even more so at sunrise, when crowds are minimal but the photo opps. are maximized.

Taj Mahal in Agra is the most precious gift of love by a man to his beloved wife on this earth. The credit of Taj's existence goes to the Vth Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, who built this monument of love to fulfill the last wishes of his wife, who before breathing her last asked her husband to build a tomb in her memory such as the world had never seen before.

Visiting the Taj Mahal at sunrise

Sunrise is by far the best time to visit the Taj Mahal. Not just because the early morning light turns the dome of the temple a soft, golden colour, but because this is the time when there are the least amount of tourists and if you get in early enough, you might even get some perfect portraits with no people in them.

There’s also something magical about watching the sun rise behind the Taj Mahal, a building that symbolizes one of the greatest true love stories ever told.

The Taj Mahal has 2 reflecting ponds in front, making for amazing photos of the monument reflected in the waters. The first pond has a fence around it so you can’t take photos too close to the water, but the second pond, in front of the famous “Princess Diana bench” has no fence and it the perfect place to get the most amazing photos of the monument being reflected as a mirror image in the reflecting pond .

taj mahal at sunrise

By getting here early enough, just as the sun is rising in the distance, the perfect rays shine right into the arches on the mosque. The arches frame the Taj Mahal perfectly and you can always find a perfect symmetry shot.

Later, after a bit of time to rest and relax at our hotel, we will start our Agra sightseeing to visit Agra Fort - the red sandstone citadel built by 3rd Mughal Emperor Akbar which encompasses palaces, darbar halls and beautiful gardens.

Agra Fort was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty until 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. Before capture by the British, the last Indian rulers to have occupied it were the Marathas. In 1983, the Agra fort was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

We will also visit Itmad-Ud-Daulah – a Mughal mausoleum often called ‘Jewel Box’, which was commissioned by Nur Jahan, the wife of 4th Mughal Emperor Jahangir, for her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg.

We will then have the rest of the afternoon free to explore the local markets.
